With all the changes in today’s business environment, it’s important to remain relevant and understand what’s happening., like A.I. This is your host Kaye B and let’s talk about change management

Relevancy entails being responsive to stakeholder needs and desires. You should continually evaluate offerings that benefit stakeholders and act as an agent for change. We as project managers are uniquely in a position to keep an organization prepared for the change because we work within multiple departments and teams and with that advantage, we can see the full picture of a project. Because, projects, by their very definition, create something new. And we have to adapt any new changes to the project.

Change management is comprehensive and should be a structured approach for individuals, groups and organizations from a current state to a future state in which they realize their designed benefit. So thinking about my earlier mention of A.I. An organization may start to think how can they leverage it in their projects.

Changes not only happen from an outside force, but it could be internal. Like new leadership making departmental changes. There are also demographic changes, socioeconomic pressures or technical advances. And with all those factors to consider, changes in an organization can be challenging. We’ve all be in situations where there is pitchforks and bonfires about change. Hell, some of us was part of that mob. Things like changing platforms, managers being switched out, lunch options not including afternoon beer. No matter what, your best intentions can blow up. The best thing is to create a change management plan and have key stakeholders be advocates for it. Also, have an open dialogue with the people that will be affected by the change. It could be surveys, brainstorming sessions, or 1:1 meetings.  It creates trust and gives you great feedback. And hey, you may have fewer people tossing over tables when changes happen.

We are giving you the PMP in a snap. Next week we’re talking about project performance domains.
